The Program for Global Human Resource Development for Peacebuilding and Development

The Program for Global Human Resource Development for Peacebuilding and Development
Since FY2024, Hiroshima University has been implementing the Program for Global Human Resource Development for Peacebuilding and Development. Commissioned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, this unique program aims to build the capacity of individuals working in peacebuilding and international development. Out goal is to help these individuals to not only be good at what they do, but to also be prepared to take on emerging challenges and think creatively to find innovative solutions.
The Program is comprised of three main pillars:
Training Courses
Primary Course
Mid-Career Course
JPO Pre-assignment Training Course
Career Development Support
Networking Opportunities
To implement the program, Hiroshima University established the Global Peace and Development Career Network (GPAD), which is cooperating closely with the Division for Prosperity of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme. To design and deliver the training, it draws on the knowledge and experience of Hiroshima University staff and alumni, as well as former and current UN staff members around the world. By combining the strengths of this amazing group of stakeholders, this Program will help build the capacity of the next generation of peacebuilders and development practitioners.
3 PROGRAM PILLARS

01
Training Courses
Training is the core pillar of this Program. There are three main training courses: Primary Course, Mid-Career Course, and the JPO Pre-assignment Training Course. The target group for each course is different, but all are taught by world class trainers from Japan and abroad. As most participants already have work experience in peacebuilding and development, the training also emphasizes learning from each other.
02
Career Development Support
The second pillar of this Program is Career Development Support. To ensure that our graduates have the best chance possible at succeeding in their careers in international organizations, the Program offers application reviews, interview practice, career coaching, and other services.

03
Networking Opportunities
The third pillar of this Program is the extensive network of alumni and trainers, many of whom continue to build successful careers in international organizations. Both in-person or online, the Program encourages alumni to stay in touch and continue to support the succeeding generations of trainees.
