United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR)
Established in 1963, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) is a principal training arm of the United Nations. We deliver innovative learning solutions to individuals and organizations to enhance global decision-making and support country-level action to shape a better future. In 2023, UNITAR reached over 400,000 individuals through in-person seminars and workshops, e-learning and other training-related events. UNITAR has a global presence, with the Headquarters in Geneva, main offices in New York, Hiroshima, and Bonn, as well as networks around the world. UNITAR Hiroshima Office was established in 2003 in the symbolic city of Hiroshima, and is part of the Division for Prosperity, which is one of the programmatic divisions of UNITAR.
United Nations Volunteer (UNV) programme
The United Nations Volunteer (UNV) programme contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide. The organization works with partners to deploy qualified, highly motivated and well-supported UN Volunteers to UN entities. UNV administers the Overseas Assignment component of the Primary Course. Under this Program, more than 200 Program Associates have been dispatched as UN Volunteers. They have served at more than 50 countries and territories, including Cote d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Liberia, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Sudan and Tanzania. Some of the main UN entities which host UN Volunteers under this program include UNDP, UNHCR, UNICEF, IOM, and WFP.
